Verso  Paper completes purchase
of IP Coated Papers
Verso Paper has completed its acquisition of International Paper's coated and supercalendered paper business for approximately $1.4 billion. The coated and supercalendered business includes four paper mills located in Jay, Maine; Bucksport, Maine; Quinnesec, Michigan; and Sartell, Minnesota. Verso Paper is a leading supplier to the North American magazine publishing and catalog industry, producing approximately 1.7 million tons of coated groundwood, coated freesheet, and supercalendered papers. Weyerhaeuser pledges $1 million gift to Nature Conservancy
Weyerhaeuser announced today that it's pledging $1 million in cash and interest in forest lands to The Nature Conservancy. Weyerhaeuser officials said it's the largest combined gift to a U.S.-based conservation organization in the history of the company. The forest lands are located in states where the company owns or leases 6.4 million acres of managed forest.
"A gift of this magnitude can make a meaningful difference in protecting and enhancing our magnificent forested landscapes," said David Weekes, director of the Conservancy's Washington state chapter. [Click here for more information]
