NewPage to acquire StoraEnso North America
NewPage has announced the signing of a definitive agreement to purchase StoraEnso's North American manufacturing operations. Under the terms of the agreement, StoraEnso will receive approximately $1.5 billion in cash, a $200 million note, and a 19.9% equity interest in the new company.
“We are excited about the acquisition as it is clearly part of our strategic vision to lower our overall cost and accelerate our ability to achieve sustainable financial returns above our cost of capital,” said Mark A. Suwyn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NewPage. “This is also important in order to help us compete with illegally dumped and subsidized foreign imports.”
This acquisition will make NewPage the largest producer of publication papers, and value-added papers in North America. The new company comprise 12 manufacturing facilities with an estimated production capacity of 4,754,000 tons. The company will retain the NewPage name and will be headquartered in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Frank Parsons America proudly represents papers from NewPage and StoraEnso. We are very excited about this announcement and believe this acquisition will be very beneficial to everyone involved—including our customers. If you're already a NewPage or StoraEnso customer, please call us to find out how these changes may affect you. For more official information please click on one of the links below:

Where does your paper come from?
NewPage has just released a terrific book, entitled, Where Does Your Paper Come From?
Over the past several years, tons of imported publication papers have been showing up in the United States. The immediate appeal of these papers is their low price. Unfortunately, very few people realize that the papers they're purchasing could actually be destroying our environment.
Where Does Your Paper Come From? addresses environmental concerns voiced by printers, publishers, and corporations and will help make you a more informed buyer. Here are just a few of the questions you should be asking yourself.
| 1. |
Is your paper the product of illegal logging, the kind that is destroying forests in Russia and Indonesia at alarming rates?
| 2. |
Where was your paper made?
| 3. |
Are the claims of using recycled content legitimate?
| 4. |
Were human rights violations committed in manufacturing the paper you're using?
| 5. |
Were any environmental or air-polluting standards applied to manufacturing your paper? |
